Towards Achieving the MDGs: Technologies for the Unserved and Underserved Communities, was the title of the roundtable discussion (RTD) held on 09 June 2010 at the Traders Hotel of the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Philippines’ commitment to science to achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the United Nation in 2000.
The RTD was led by Academician (Acd.) Ceferino L. Fullosco, Chair of the Engineering Sciences and Technology Division of NAST which aims to assess the role of engineering science and technology towards the achievement of the MDGS.
Among the topics discussed were energy by Acd. Alvin B. Culaba; Infrastructure and the MDGs, by Reynaldo B. Vea; ICT Infrastructure, by Acd William T. Torres and Eliezer A. Albacca and Water Sanitation, by Acd. Guillermo Q. Tabios III.
Questions pertinent to the topics discussed were asked most especially on energy and water sanitations by the academicians and the media.
Result of the forum will be presented during the 32nd NAST Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) on 14-15 July 2010 with the theme “Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and Beyond: Are We Making Progress?”
