A Singaporean national was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for attempting to transport kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu into the Philippines.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Undersecretary Jose S. Gutierrez Jr. identified the arrested foreign national as Ng Boon Eng Danny, 42 years old, who arrived in the country aboard Thai Airways flight TG624 from Bangkok, Thailand.

The PDEA Special Enforcement Service (SES) under Director Jeoffrey Tacio conducted the interdiction operation at the NAIA Terminal 1 on Friday, July 20, 2012, at around 8:30 in the evening with the support of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG), particularly the Bureau of Customs (BoC), Bureau of Immigration (BI), the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) and the PNP AVSEGroup.

Authorities confiscated approximately three kilograms of shabu placed inside a rectangular plastic package wrapped in black duct tape and hidden in his trolley bag. The illegal drugs were discovered during a routine inspection conducted by the Duty Customs Examiner.

Half an hour later, a follow-up operation was immediately hatched by the operatives which resulted in the capture of the intended receiver of the shabu package, identified as Ghale Nar Maya, a 43-year-old female Nepalese, in a hotel in Malate, Manila.

Gutierrez commended the close coordination and strong collaboration among the members of the NAIA-IADITG, on the continuing success of intercepting illegal drugs at the country’s premier airport.

Danny will face charges for importation, transportation, and possession of dangerous drugs, in violation of Sections 4, 5, and 11, Article II, of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, while conspiracy charges (Section 26) will be filed against Maya.

Combined operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Philippine National Police (PNP) seized P600,000 worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, from three drug personalities who are members of a notorious drug group, during a series of buy-bust operations in Dumaguete City.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Jose S. Gutierrez, Jr. identified the suspects as Aladin Tanilon, alias Bordet; Neil Dejos, 22 years old, of Colon Street Extension, Barangay Taclobo; and Mayflor Saraña, alias Darlene, 24, of Barangay Northern Junob. All are members of the Misamis Drug Group and are included in the PDEA Regional Order of Battle.

On July 17, 2012, at about 3:25 pm, a PDEA poseur-buyer and Tanilon agreed to transact in Sitio Caday-ong, Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City. After the suspect received the three marked 100-peso bills in exchange for one plastic sachet of shabu, the combined elements of PDEA Regional Office 7 (PDEA RO7) under Director Jigger Montallana, NBI and PNP immediately swooped down on Tanilon. Further search on him yielded another two plastic sachets of shabu.

On the same day, after the arrest of Tanilon, the same operatives conducted a follow-up buy-bust operation which resulted in the arrest of Dejos in Purok Banikanhon, Barangay Taclobo, and Saraña in Barangay Junob. Dejos yielded seven plastic sachets of shabu with approximate weight of 31.75 grams, a cellular phone and a motorcycle which he utilized in his illegal drug transactions, while three plastic sachets of shabu weighing approximately 14 grams, were recovered from Saraña.

Gutierrez said that Saraña is the trusted drug dealer of a drug lord who is now incarcerated at the National Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, while Dejos is her runner. “Their illegal drug operations in Dumaguete City, other neighboring cities and municipalities have been closely monitored for some time now. Last year, undercover agents were able to transact with Saraña but the drug deal failed to materialize because the government agents were not able to show the money during the transaction,” Gutierrez added.

Dejos and Saraña will face charges for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, while charges for violation of Section 5 and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) are being prepared for filing in court against Tanilon.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) rendered inoperative a drug den in Cagayan de Oro City on July 19, 2012, during a buy-bust operation that resulted in the arrest of its owner and visitor.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Jose S. Gutierrez, Jr. identified the arrested suspects as Reynaldo A. Montejo, alias Aldong, 39; and Jocelyn R. Cabania, 37. Both are residents of Magsaysay Street, Barangay 17, Cagayan de Oro City.

Elements of PDEA Regional Office 10 (PDEA RO10) Misamis Oriental Provincial Special Enforcement Team (PSET) nabbed Montejo in his house, which is being utilized as a drug den in Barangay 17, after he sold one plastic sachet of shabu to a poseur-buyer.

Gutierrez said that when operatives entered Montejo’s house, they recovered seven plastic sachets of shabu (six of them opened with traces of shabu), various drug paraphernalia and one unit of Suzuki motorcycle, with plate number 473OKQ. Cabania, a neighbor of Montejo, who was inside the den when the operation was conducted, was also arrested.  The PDEA Chief added that the drug den caters mostly to jeepney drivers and hospitality workers in the area.

Montejo is facing charges for maintaining a drug den (Section 6), selling dangerous drugs (Section 5), possession (Section 11) and possession of drug paraphernalia (Section12), in violation of Article II, Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, while Section 7 (Employee and Visitor of Drug Den) of the anti-drug law was filed against Cabania. They are presently detained at the PDEA RO10 jail facility.
